In Finland, a significant part of renewable energy is produced from wood-based material and byproducts. Nokia, among other cities, generates heat from renewable wood material and utilises ash by-product from power plant operations.
The ECO3 area is located at a significant biomass terminal that offers a centralised area for lumber-based material distribution and refinement tailored to the needs of the energy industry. Metsänhoitoyhdistys Pirkanmaa, a forest management association invested in this biomass terminal, acts as a wood producer near the beginning of the value chain, and an ash user at the end of it.
ECO3 provides an excellent opportunity to advance wood-based cycles and bio-economy based activities in the lumber industry within the ECO3 area and the surrounding region. We’re searching for companies eager to establish new industrial activities that further the bio-economy and wood cycle.
An innovative, industrial-scale, multidisciplinary bio- and circular economy business area, ECO3, is being built on the excellently located Kolmenkulma Eco-Industrial Park, situated in the Finnish growth corridor. This nationally important competence centre is also a demonstration and piloting environment, developed by the City of Nokia and Verte Ltd., the City of Nokia’s development company, in cooperation with companies and universities.
